The positive: Free service (though a premium paid service is available). Simple and easy to get started. Ok for limited alerts.

The negative: Not very sophisticated. I don't believe email is the best method for reliably monitoring twitter.

Overall: Ok for what it is, but I prefer using Twitter search RSS feeds into Google Reader for free and unlimited twitter monitoring.
